Riverside Butcher Company was founded by August Avantaggio a native of Damariscotta. He attended Wheaton College and received a B.A. in American history and Latin American Studies. After spending a year in Guatemala working for a NGO, he returned to Damariscotta and began putting down roots. 

His great-grandfather and grandfather were both grocers in Newton, MA and it is this heritage that pushed him towards opening a local butcher shop. His ties to Damariscotta run deep and he takes great pride in being able to provide the Mid-Coast community with fresh, local, naturally raised meats.
